Education, Safety and Cultural Fund
Giving our members a leg up on the ladder of health and success.
The Education Department is funded through the Local One Health Care Fund. Benefits are funded entirely by negotiated employer contributions. The benefits include:
College Scholarships: Since 1993 more than 16,000 students have won nearly $13 million in scholarships. Scholarships may be used for accredited colleges or certified trade schools. Members, their dependents and their grandchildren are eligible.
Continuing Adult Education:A wide variety of courses are offered through local BOCES in New York State or AVTS in Pennsylvania. Courses cover subjects such as computers, word processing, CPR/First Aid, defensive driving, cooking, nutrition and crafts. Only fund participants, not dependents, are eligible.
Dislocated Workers: Participants who are unemployed due to a closing or layoff are assisted with educational materials. The program helps with the emotional and financial stresses of unemployment. The goal is to help dislocated workers make the transition back to work.
