Health Care Fund

Local One's Health Care Fund provides one of the best member benefit plans in the nation. In 2006, the fund paid out $53.5 million in benefits.

Benefits include professional services, inpatient hospital, prescription drugs, outpatient hospital, dental, life insurance, vision and eyeglasses. Professional services include physicians, psychologists, certified social workers, physical therapists and chiropractors.

Local One and employers negotiate the level of benefits and employer contributions to the fund. A board of trustees made up of representatives of Local One and employers administers the fund.

For most eligible members, employers pay the full cost for either family or individual coverage. Deductibles and co-payments for services are lower than those of most plans or HMOs.

Participants may choose their own providers, but will have lower out-of-pocket costs by using network providers.
